Cowburn & Cowpar
Narrowboat Carrying Fleet

Skylark enjoys its original engine.
Much of the engine's back end was damaged in a serious fire which totally destroyed
the back cabin in the late 50's. These parts being replaced by those from
Starling. Similarly, Swan & Stork also retain their original engines
The Engine Test Certificate
has survived. Engine number 31723. Tested by J Ashworth, June 21st - 23rd 1934,
issued June 24th. Covering a record of initial build through to the 1960's
The Inside
Cover
from a sales catalogue at the time shows the extent of the factory at the
time. Also, a listing of Gardner
Outlets around the world
The operation of the Injection
Sprayer (bottom of the inserted page) rotates the diesel spray 180º
between light (tight over, out of gear) & load (under way, bracket open). In
light the spray is directed up into the hot bulb to help retain heat. If heat is
not retained the engine will stop or go out. Under load the spray is directed across the
expansion chamber. The design
and operation of the Little End made under
license from Kromhout is also unusual
