Gas
Work
Gas safety needs to be taken very
seriously. Principal regulations that help maintain safety
-
Statutory Instrument SI 1998 No
2451 "Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998" (GSIUR) forms
the backbone of legislation in the UK
-
For vessels built within the
United Kingdom, PD 5482-3:2005, which supersedes BS 5482-3:1999 (now
withdrawn). This is the code of practice for installations in boats,
yachts and other vessels of lengths up to 24 metres
-
For vessels CE marked to the
Recreational Craft Directive, which may be imported, the builder may
have chosen to apply the standards within BS EN ISO 10239:2000
For privately owned pleasure boats a person can
carry out gas work providing they are competent. Should an incident occur
those who undertook the work could find themselves having to demonstrate
competency
Competency with regard to gas work is not proved
by being good at DIY. It needs to be against the requirements of the
statutory legislation
Gas work on Hire Boats, Day Boats and Residential
boats has to be carried out by those having correct CORGI registration
A residential boat is categorized as a boat used
as a primary place of residence
Those holding CORGI registration have been
assessed as being competent to a required level in the application of the
statutory legislation
Holding CORGI registration does not necessarily
mean gas work can be carried out in all situations. For example, I can
carry out gas work on a cooker installed on a boat, but for the same
cooker installed in a caravan, I do not carry CORGI registration
CORGI installers carry an ID card issued annually
which details on the back the type of work which can be undertaken
Gas
Work
I
undertake the full range of gas work. Complete system installation through
to single
appliance serving. Due to the wide range of work that can be required
please call to discuss your needs
For peace of mind, consider having an annual gas safety
check. The check would review the complete installation, pipe work and
appliances
Consider having a bubble tester fitted, to enable
you, the boat owner, to check for gas soundness as frequently as you
choose
Remember, LPG Regulators and flexible pipe work does not last forever,
and should be
replaced at least every five years
It is a
requirement of the law that any boat
used for hire & reward has to
have an annual gas safety check, and this is often referred to as a Landlord
Certificate. This checks the correct installation of pipe work,
appliances, flues and ventilation. Should you operate a hire boat fleet I
would be happy to discuss your requirements
